Where am I? – Bioelectric orientation
sub topic
Duration
90 Minuten

Migratory birds find their way south by means of magnetoreception, bats create an “aural picture” of their surroundings by means of echolocation and certain fish use electric fields for orientation in murky waters.
We humans do not have such special sensory organs. Or do we? On the one hand, this workshop explores how active bioelectric orientation functions in two electric fish species. On the other hand, it takes a closer look at the principles of electromagnetic charges, currents and fields. In the process, we also shed light on the question as to how we humans can generate and detect electrical impulses.
