Spectra
Elements and their colors.
Distinguishing individual hues from a color impression: it’s as challenging as identifying individual instruments in an orchestra. Yet most elements emit a “color chord.” Using a diffraction grating, this light concert can be spread out.
The tubular discharge lamps are each filled with a gaseous element. Through the diffraction grating, we see the hues as differently colored lines side by side. A kind of fingerprint of the element becomes visible.
