If you place a blue filter exactly on the yellow banana, the banana appears green - logical, isn't it? A larger blue filter that also covers the white background area should not change anything. But it does, the banana appears to be yellow despite the blue filter! Our brain automatically corrects the "blue cast" of the background. Green - blue = yellow!
