Ball in a Bowl
Shorter path = faster to the goal?
A question that occupied the best mathematicians three hundred years ago.
This competition compares two parallel tracks, slightly inclined, with the same start and end points. One is straight, the other has a dip. The answer to which track gets the ball to its goal faster is linked to the brachistochrone problem. Leonard Euler provided a proof for this problem, which is now considered the birth of the calculus of variations.
