Water Parabola
Parabola in a natural phenomenon.
As the rotational speed of this container increases, the water surface inside curves. The faster it rotates, the steeper the curve becomes. The shape of the water surface is always a parabola, except when at rest.
The centrifugal force pushes the water outward. Sooner or later – depending on the rotation speed – an equilibrium is reached between the centrifugal force and the water pressure. This pressure increases quadratically with the distance from the rotation axis. That is why the water surface forms a parabola.
