Lissajous Rods
Harmonic oscillation patterns.
The six metal rods are shaped to oscillate at different speeds depending on the direction.
A metal rod with a width-to-depth ratio of 2:1 oscillates differently than a rod with a ratio of 3:2. Depending on the side ratio and the angle at which the rods are plucked, they create harmonic, and occasionally dissonant, figures.
