Experiments with polarized Light
Playing with light and colors.
Light is a wave – and its oscillations vibrate in different directions. With polarization filters and everyday objects, this phenomenon can be studied and observed in a simple and impressive way.
For instance, two crossed polarization filters block all light. However, adding a third filter allows light to pass through again. Polarization filters influence the oscillation direction of light waves. Even ordinary plastic film, viewed through the filter, produces striking effects on light. This is a great method to examine the quality of materials – or your own glasses – as it reveals internal stresses in the material.
