Christmas Balls
Round shapes, angular gaps.
The spheres are indeed round, despite the triangular gaps between them. Can this really be?
If a sphere is missing in the "arrangement," we see the base as an irregular hexagon. Between the spheres, we perceive it as an equilateral triangle.
The closer two spheres get, the smaller their reflections become, until they disappear entirely at the contact point. The space between the spheres appears as a dark triangle because no light from there reaches the retina. This triangle seems to extend into the spheres, making them appear hexagonal.
