Why is the Sky blue?
… and why does the sun blush?
The sky could be black as night, couldn’t it? After all, we’re looking directly into the nearly black universe.
To understand better: a slide projector shines through a tube filled with a slightly cloudy liquid. The original white light scatters along its path through the tube (as in the sky) due to tiny particles. First, the blue components of the light (like during the day), and then, with a longer path (like in the evening), the red components.
