Disappearing Glass Rods
Brought before your eyes: Optical density.
Similar to how a drinking straw appears bent in a glass – here is another way to illustrate the phenomenon of “optical density.”
Water and air are clearly optically different materials. Here, when a bundle of seemingly identical rods is immersed in a perfectly clear liquid, only one remains visible. The other rods (made of Pyrex) disappear because they share the same refractive index as the liquid.
